Who is eligible?

We are looking for college-bound students entering the 11th grade in the fall (or 15-16 years old) with an interest in science, engineering, and math.  We will consider all applicants, but preference will be given to low-income, first-generation or underrepresented minorities.

How much does the HAB Academy cost?

The HAB Academy is free including materials, overnight accommodations, and food. We do not provide transportation to and from the HAB Academy.

When is the HAB Academy?

The HAB Academy usually runs from Sunday to Friday in late summer. Participants check-in on Sunday and are picked up following the completion ceremony on Friday afternoon.

Where will students stay?

Students will stay in dorms on the Central Washington University campus.  Most of the activities will also take place on campus; however, students will also go on a field trip.  We require all participants to stay on campus even if they live nearby. Students will eat in the dining halls on campus.

What will the students be doing?

Students will be doing a variety of structured educational hands-on activities including writing computer programs, building sensors, and working in groups to design a high altitude balloon experiment.  We will provide all materials. No previous experience is necessary.
